Alberta Association of the Deaf (AAD) is an action-oriented organization of and for Deaf Albertans of every age. AAD was incorporated in 1972 by the Province of Alberta as a provincial society.

"What is in between the ears is more important than what is in the ears." - Frederick Schreiber, NAD

Deaf Culture is a very unique part of the Canadian scene. If you watch Deaf Culture in action, you will be captivated by the animated faces and lively hand movements which make up the fascinating language called ASL (American Sign Language). ASL is a complex language with its own syntax and grammar.

The Association was established to co-ordinate recreational activities for the Deaf in Alberta; to promote the competition of athletes at local, provincial, and national levels; to establish a central office where information could be received and distributed throughout the province; and to select Alberta athletes to compete in national championships for the Summer / Winter Deaflympics.
